What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system, also referred to as ECS is a system of cell receptors and corresponding molecules. These cannabinoid receptors can be found all throughout the body, having a large variety of functions. Certain receptors are found in larger concentrations in specific regions of the body however. The central nervous system has an abundance of CB1 receptors, while CB2 receptors are more often found in the peripheral nervous system, gastrointestinal tract and on immune cells located throughout the body.
